WASHING AND DRYING TIPS – QUILT

Learn how  to wash  your clothes according to  the type of fabric,  to whiten your clothes and completely remove all stains, even the most difficult ones. You will also learn the meanings of washing, drying and ironing labels.

MACHINE WASH A QUILT

Just like sheets, pillowcases and shams, duvets require special care to maintain their softness and comfort during the winter. Cleaning a duvet  is not an easy task due to its thickness and size. To protect the textile fibers, but also for the sake of hygiene, a washing machine is the best option, as long as you have the right machine.

For duvets that are too fragile, i.e. down and feather fillings, a professional wash is recommended. To prevent pilling or clumping inside your comforter, add two or three tennis balls to your machine. The balls will hit the comforter during the wash cycle.

HAND WASH A QUILT

You can also wash your comforter yourself. Although it’s hard work, it’s completely doable: Soak your comforter in a bathtub filled with soapy water. However, be careful not to squeeze it too hard when draining excess water: that could easily damage the filling. Dry flat recommended. If you don’t have a flat surface, you can choose to machine dry.

THE IDEAL FREQUENCY TO WASH QUILTS

In the interest of hygiene, household linen should be refreshed and cleaned regularly. However, this does not apply to duvets. Since it is not in direct contact with the skin, you simply need to ensure that the duvet cover is washed regularly.

To avoid damaging your duvet, wash it out of season at a laundromat. To  make it easier to clean a  lightly soiled duvet, a stain remover may be sufficient. Be sure to air it out well to prevent moisture and fungus.

WASHING AND DRYING TIPS – LEATHER

Leather is a delicate and expensive material. Therefore, it requires regular maintenance, as this is the only way to keep it in good condition in the long run. To properly treat leather, it is not always necessary to invest in stain removers or balms. A few household tips will do the trick, making sure it maintains its shine despite daily wear and tear.

Marseille soap

Marseille soap is a very effective natural product for cleaning leather, regardless of its color (dark, light, white). To use, dip a washcloth or cotton cloth in a mixture of Marseille soap and water. Drain it, then gently brush it over the leather in a circular motion. However, be careful not to rub too hard to avoid damaging the leather. Repeat this process, but this time with clean water to rinse, then dry with a clean cloth.

White vinegar and cleansing milk

Pass a cotton or soft cloth soaked in cleaning milk with circular movements over the entire surface of the leather. To help the absorption of the product, add a few drops of white vinegar, then rub gently. In addition to its cleaning effect, white vinegar is recommended because it helps maintain the shine and color of the leather.

THE BEST WAY TO APPLY THE CLEANER ON CLEAN LEATHER

To clean a sofa, shoes, a bag or a leather jacket, always use a cotton cloth. To remove stains, rub gently in circular motions or by patting dry. After rinsing, dry the leather at room temperature, away from heat sources so it doesn’t harden.

IF YOU HAVE LEATHER SHOES…

If you have leather shoes, don’t wear the same pair every day to prevent damage to the leather from moisture and perspiration. To preserve the shape of your leather shoes, especially when they have gotten wet, use shoe lasts. They not only remove moisture, but also aerate the leather.

It is not recommended to wash the leather in a machine.

Greater use of self-service laundries

REASONS THAT HAVE FAVORED GREATER USE OF SELF-SERVICE LAUNDRIES.

Who uses self-service laundries?

Since the first self-service laundries opened, in addition to seeing how they have been increasing in number, the range of people who have become regular customers has also expanded, seeing the services they offer.

Regarding the evolution of user profiles, the first were foreigners (because they already knew about these services in their countries of origin) and little by little students, people with “complicated” work schedules and even older people and/or living it was only getting closer.

Using a self-service laundry is much more practical and economical. For example, we go when we need to do the weekly laundry and forget about everything that goes into doing the laundry at home. From there we leave with clean clothes, dry and ready to store.

It is also  more profitable  . You save on the purchase of appliances, the cost of water and electricity, and having to buy cleaning products for it.

On the other hand, there is also the profile of those people who prefer to continue doing their laundry at home, but choose to go to self-service laundries only for certain uses, for example, cleaning large items (duvets, quilts…). ). In addition, the cost in time and money is lower than in other specialized establishments and the quality of the result is very good.

Why do we use more and more laundries?

More and more people are joining the trend of using a laundry because the modern lifestyle is constantly evolving and buying appliances is becoming more complicated, not so much because of purchasing power, since prices are very varied and They are practically at your fingertips. available to everyone, but because today’s life is extremely dynamic.

FLEXIBILITY is one of the main reasons for his choice, since it allows him to combine the work and family routine with the performance of this task.

Many of the apartments that are available for rent are sometimes very small.

This has many advantages in terms of order and cleanliness, but not when it comes to placing furniture or appliances.

In addition, modern young people often move from one city to another, either for study or work, so there is a tendency to walk with just the right luggage.

If not, they would have to put their furniture and appliances up for sale every time they move…and the most important thing is practicality.

For these cases, the use of self-service laundries is ideal.

save money

It is a good way to reduce water costs, and especially electricity, which is usually the most expensive… but you always have to compare prices and services of different self-service stores, ruling out what could be a significant expense.

Ensure a good result yourself

If you are one of those people who have a particular hobby with laundry, with the treatment and care of all your clothes, you will no longer have to worry about letting other people do it for you in a conventional laundry.

  • Be careful about the type of detergent you use.

WASHING AND DRYING TIPS – SUEDE

Suede can easily lose its softness, its uniformity and especially its spongy feel when poorly maintained. It is true that it is a material that stains very quickly, but a few simple and natural precautions are enough to keep the suede in good condition.

Rubber brush or crepe?

Whether it’s a pair of shoes, boots, a bag, or a jacket, you can clean suede with a crepe brush or eraser to dust off most of the dirt. This also keeps the suede velvety soft.

White vinegar

Are your suede shoes and accessories a little dirty? You can use white vinegar to remove grease stains and white marks. To do this, dip a toothbrush in white vinegar mixed with warm water (add a drop of liquid detergent), then brush gently. Gently rinse with a well-wrung sponge: simply dampen the surface. Then wipe the treated part with a clean cloth before letting it air dry in a shaded place.

If the vinegar does not have the desired effect, you can try ammonia mixed with a little water: gently brush the stained part. Then, with a piece of clean linen, dry the chamois and add a little talcum powder. In organic stores you can buy a special powder to clean suede shoes: “Tierra de Sommières”. It is a highly absorbent powder, very effective in eliminating fat.

Suede is very soft and, like any other material, it wears down over time. To maintain its softness and prevent rapid deterioration, suede must be cared for regularly:

  • Brush the suede to remove embedded dirt.
  • Then you can waterproof it with a renovating product that nourishes the suede and restores its color.

WASHING AND DRYING TIPS – ODORS

How to remove perspiration odor from clothes

Are the yellowish stains gone but you can still smell the odor even though your clothes just came out of the machine? There are easy and effective ways to  remove perspiration odor from clothing.

HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS

In this kind of situation, you need to make up your mind and act. If you don’t have any professional detergent on hand, opt for  white vinegar instead  . Soak clothing in a solution made of equal parts vinegar and water; rub well under the arms, in the armpit area. In addition to the smell, white vinegar can remove sweat stains.

Avoid using the dryer  : heat accentuates odours. Dry at room temperature and use a traditional clothesline. If your machine is equipped with the cold air mode, why not make use of it?

Baking soda  is another equally effective option. Simply mix some baking soda with water to make a paste. Once this is done, apply it on the stained parts and leave it on for about an hour. Then put the clothes through the washing machine. To make this solution even more effective, add the equivalent of one tablespoon of baking soda to the wash load.

HOW CAN YOU PERFUME YOUR CLOTHES?
