WASHING AND DRYING TIPS – SUEDE

Suede can easily lose its softness, its uniformity and especially its spongy feel when poorly maintained. It is true that it is a material that stains very quickly, but a few simple and natural precautions are enough to keep the suede in good condition.

Rubber brush or crepe?

Whether it’s a pair of shoes, boots, a bag, or a jacket, you can clean suede with a crepe brush or eraser to dust off most of the dirt. This also keeps the suede velvety soft.

White vinegar

Are your suede shoes and accessories a little dirty? You can use white vinegar to remove grease stains and white marks. To do this, dip a toothbrush in white vinegar mixed with warm water (add a drop of liquid detergent), then brush gently. Gently rinse with a well-wrung sponge: simply dampen the surface. Then wipe the treated part with a clean cloth before letting it air dry in a shaded place.

If the vinegar does not have the desired effect, you can try ammonia mixed with a little water: gently brush the stained part. Then, with a piece of clean linen, dry the chamois and add a little talcum powder. In organic stores you can buy a special powder to clean suede shoes: “Tierra de Sommières”. It is a highly absorbent powder, very effective in eliminating fat.

Suede is very soft and, like any other material, it wears down over time. To maintain its softness and prevent rapid deterioration, suede must be cared for regularly:

  • Brush the suede to remove embedded dirt.
  • Then you can waterproof it with a renovating product that nourishes the suede and restores its color.
